Anita Rai was born in 1975 in a metropolis of India. Although she now resides in UK, she is still very attached to her roots, culture, aesthetics, and literature. She has done her BA from India, with Honours in English Literature and Language. After coming to the UK, Anita has done her MBA with specialisation in Marketing. She also has a rapport with the brush and colours, and is not a stranger to humming her vocal chords. Anita is absolutely passionate about arts, and cuisine. And, in her own words, she is a ‘voracious reader’.

Anita Rai writes in English. She says, "I learned English before I went to school. But it was not the first language that I learned to read and write. Nevertheless, English became my literary language. Rai's style of writing is clearly distinguishable from the other Indian authors writing in English. Major concerns that are part of her work are, elements of spirituality, devotional ecstasy, and women’s might (interestingly not rights!), and visiting historic events in their historicisms. Rai’s first serious venture with the pen, is a collection of poems in English, waiting to be published. It received an absolutely glowing review . An extract of its editorial review is given below:
